MPLA holds congress next September 7
At the meeting, the members of the Central Committee approved the proposal of João Lourenço's candidacy for the position of MPLA president.
João Lourenço, MPLA's current vice president, will replace leader José Eduardo dos Santos, who leaves political life for his decision.
The MPLA approved on the 27th of April the holding of an extraordinary congress in the first half of September of this year and the candidacy of João Lourenço to the position of president of the party.
In the communiqué issued at the end of the meeting, the Central Committee expressed its gratitude to President José Eduardo dos Santos for exemplary and unquestionable leadership ahead of the party.
It recognized the leader's achievements in building a strong, cohesive party that promoted political, economic and social changes in Angola.
Gathered under the leadership of the MPLA president, José Eduardo dos Santos, members of the Central Committee considered it fundamental to continue to highlight the leadership and the humanist spirit of José Eduardo dos Santos as a way to preserve and enhance his political legacy.
