President of the Hellenic Republic Katerina Sakellaropoulou, currently on an official visit to Uruguay at the invitation of Uruguay’s President Luis Lacalle Pou, on Monday visited the headquarters of the historic Greek community of Montevideo where she was welcomed by the community’s president, Panagiotis Hatzirallis, its vice president, Pavlos Avgoustis, and members of the Greek Diaspora.
Later, she and the Metropolitan of Buenos Aires Joseph visited the Greek-Orthodox Church of St. Nicholas.
Sakellaropoulou thanked those attending for their warm welcome: “I am particularly happy to be with you tonight, during the first visit by a President of the Hellenic Republic to Uruguay. My presence in this beautiful country gave me the opportunity to see for myself just how strong the feelings of friendship with Greece are in Uruguay”.
On Sunday, during her first day in the country, Sakellaropoulou visited the National Library, the Solis theatres as well as parts of Montevideo in which there is a strong Greek interest.
