Russian PM Dmitry Medvedev meets CIS Information Council members at Moscow session

YEREVAN, NOVEMBER 26, ARMENPRESS. Russian Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev on Monday visited the TASS head office in Moscow for the 27th meeting of the chiefs of CIS news agencies (CIS Information Council).

The agenda of the meeting included the discussion of preparations for the celebrations of the 75th anniversary of Victory Day.

ARMENPRESS Director Aram Ananyan presented the Armenian state news agency’s information seeking activities in the process of preparations for the celebrations. He stressed that ARMENPRESS has collected rare images of servicemen and officers from various battlefronts. Ananyan talked about projects dedicated to the Great Patriotic War and briefed the Council on the contributions of ARMENPRESS staff in shaping the victory.

“ARMENPRESS correspondents brought their contribution in the victory of WWII both by fighting under arms for their fatherland, and by creating topical and quality information with pen and brush, and the more than 100 posters of high artistic value, which the agency has already digitized and published five years ago on the occasion of the 70th Victory Day,” Ananyan said.

TASS Director Sergey Mikhailov said the Russian state news agency is planning a number of events. Mikhailov said TASS was preparing a large photo exhibition entitled The Press in Wartime, featuring photographs taken by the agency’s correspondents and archive images.

"It is our common holiday. Our peoples defended the right of future generations to life," the chairman of the CIS Information Council, TASS Director General Sergey Mikhailov said at the meeting. "We have no right to forget the great accomplishment of the people who emerged the winners in the bloodiest war in the history of human race.

The CIS Information Council was formed in 1995.  The Council is composed of the executives of state news agencies of CIS countries: Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Moldova, Russia and Tajikistan.
