Uzbekistan, Russia sign co-op agreements

Uzbekistan and Russia signed a number of documents and agreements in order to further boost cooperation between the two countries.

More than ten documents were signed on November 2 following a meeting between Uzbek representatives and Russian delegation led by Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev who arrived in Tashkent on an official visit.

Several memorandums and agreements to develop cooperation in the oil-refining, banking-financial, investment, commercial and industrial spheres, automotive, science, foreign migration and other areas were signed, UzA reported.

The prospects for further development of cooperation between Uzbekistan and Russia were discussed during the meeting in an expanded format with the participation of official delegations of the two countries.

The Uzbek delegation was led by the Uzbek Prime Minister Abdulla Aripov.

Earlier, Uzbek President Shavkat Mirziyoyev held talks with Russian Prime Minister.

Issues of further expansion and deepening of Uzbek-Russian multifaceted relations, increase in the volume of mutual trade, implementation of joint cooperation projects in various sectors of the economy, development of cultural and humanitarian exchange were discussed.

A note of readiness was expressed for further development and strengthening of partnership relations and mutually beneficial practical cooperation between the two countries.

Uzbek-Russian cooperation is developing on the basis of the Strategic Partnership Treaty, the Treaty on Allied Relations and a number of other important documents.

Over the past six months, about 20 visits took place at the intergovernmental level.

Trade and economic cooperation, especially in the field of agriculture, the supply of food products and industrial cooperation, is developing dynamically.

By the end of the year Uzbekistan intends to reach the $5 billion trade turnover level with Russia. Moreover, this year Russia has come out on top among Uzbekistan’s foreign trade partners.

In 2016, bilateral trade exceeded $4 billion. Uzbekistan exports natural gas, cars, chemical, textile, fruit and vegetable products to Russia. Black and nonferrous metals, wood, oil and oil products, electrical engineering, paper products and pharmaceuticals are imported from Russia.

There are 961 enterprises in Uzbekistan with participation of Russian capital and 569 enterprises created with participation of investors from Uzbekistan in Russia.
