World Cup of Hockey matches today: Czech Republic vs. North America in Pittsburgh at 3:30 p.m., Canada vs. Russia in Pittsburgh at 7:30 p.m., Sweden vs. Europe in Washington at 7 p.m.

Friday, Sept. 16

Bridget Jones’s Baby and Snowden are the big movies opening in theatres, along with the Quebec film Embrasse-moi comme tu m’aimes.

Britain plays Australia and Belgium faces Argentina in the semifinals of the Davis Cup tennis tournament. In Halifax, Canada plays Chile in a World Group playoff match, but without star Milos Raonic. 

Canadiens prospects play in the three-day Rookie Tournament starting today in London, Ont.

The Alouettes play the Tiger-Cats in Hamilton at 7 p.m.

Saturday, Sept. 17

Lac-Brome hosts Townshippers’ Day at the Brome fairgrounds.

The Paralympic Games in Rio come to an end with the closing ceremony.

The 68th Primetime Emmy Awards are presented at a gala in Los Angeles. Meanwhile in Montreal, the Prix Gémeaux, honouring the best in Quebec television, are handed out at a gala hosted by Jean-Philippe Wauthier and Éric Salvail and broadcast live on Radio-Canada.
