Croatia’s Election-Winner Faces Tough Dilemma Over Potential Partners

The relative election winner, the HDZ, is negotiating with the far-right Homeland Movement but it also wants to keep national minorities – who the far-right reject – on board.

Since the polls in Croatia closed on April 17, it is still not clear who will form the new government.

The Croatian Democratic Union, HDZ, won most seats – 61. The opposition Social Democratic Party, SDP, won 42, the far-right Domovinski pokret (Homeland Movement), DP, won 14, and Most (The Bridge) 11.

The left-oriented Mozemo! (We can!) took ten seats, the regional Istrian Democratic Parliament, IDS, won two, the Independent North Platform, Fokus party won one and the national minorities took eight.
